Two staff members at Overland Trail Middle School in Brighton have been placed on leave pending a Brighton police investigation into allegations that one of them “behaved in a sexually inappropriate manner.”

Brighton police spokesman John Bradley confirmed the existence of the investigation but did not offer details about the allegations.

No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made.

The staff members were not identified. However, Bradley acknowledged that the police investigation centers on the allegations of sexual misconduct against one of them and whether the other met the “legal duties as a mandated reporter.”

School employees are among a host of people required by Colorado law to call police if they know or suspect of abusive behavior toward a child.

In a letter sent to parents Thursday, Overland Trail Principal Eric Lambright said that while “I am unable to share details of this situation, I can assure you OTMS and 27J Schools responded immediately, appropriately, and are following all necessary protocols as they work closely with Brighton PD.”

Lambright said that confidentiality, due process and a thorough investigation by the police all prevent him from saying more.

“I would also strongly discourage rumors, gossip, and additional speculation while this investigation continues,” he wrote. “Please help reinforce this message with your student. We will share additional information when it becomes available.”
