CASTLE PINES, Colo. — 2 motorcycle riders were injured and a stretch of Interstate 25 was shut down for an hour after a crash during a funeral procession for a World War II Navy veteran Saturday.
According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), one motorcycle crashed into another while they were heading north on I-25 in Castle Pines at around 1:40 p.m. They were both part of the procession.
The motorcycle riders, both men in their 40s, were hospitalized, one with serious injuries, according to CSP.
CSP said the northbound lanes of I-25 were shut down, and traffic was diverted onto the Castle Pines exit. It was reopened at 2:40 p.m.
Stratton was one of the last known survivors to have served on the USS Arizona, which was sunk during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
He passed away on Feb. 15 at age 97.
The procession was heading from his home city of Colorado Springs to Red Cloud, Nebraska.
