1 dead, 1 severely burned in residential fire

The fire happened early the morning of Dec. 23 at a home in the 3100 block of Butternut Drive, the Loveland Police Department said.

LOVELAND, Colo. — One person was killed and another was severely burned in a fire in Loveland early in the morning of Dec. 23.

The Loveland Police Department said its dispatch center received a 911 call just before 3:30 a.m. about a fire in the 3100 block of Butternut Drive, causing multiple agencies — including Loveland Police and the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority — to respond to the residence.

A preliminary investigation found there were three people inside the residence when the fire started, one of whom was found dead, the department said.

Another person was taken to a hospital in Denver for severe burns, and the third individual received treatment for smoke inhalation at the scene, according to the department.

The Larimer County coroner's office identified the man killed in the fire as 25-year-old Jesse Speker.

Police said on Jan. 3 that investigators found the fire was accidental, and the cause was electrical. They said "there is no reason to believe that a criminal offense occurred."
