Little houses help big cause in Summit County

In Dillon, tiny playhouses have popped up that children can play on. They're being auctioned off to the highest bidders to raise money for affordable housing.

DILLON, Colo. — Extra small playhouses in Dillon are making a big impact on people who need affordable housing in Summit County.

Several houses are on display next to the Dillon Reservoir at Marina Park in Dillon. They're spaces kids or those who are kids at heart would love to have.

Five playhouses were designed by Summit County builders as part of the Playhouse Project, according to Suzanne Phillipson with the Town of Dillon.

Children can play in them for the next several weeks while people bid to buy them. The money raised supports an affordable housing program with the Family Intercultural Resource Center in Summit County.

“The houses will be on display until August 9 at which time the bidding will be closed,” said Phillipson. “If you like the houses you can bid on them. The highest bidder will win the house.”

One playhouse has been designed as a hobbit house with a round door, two swings inside and a grass roof people can climb on.

Another house has a rock-climbing wall, swing, and slide.
