SUPERIOR - After a destructive house fire in Superior on Sunday claimed the lives of two dogs and one cat, investigators have determined kids playing with a lighter ignited the flames.
Investigators from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office and Rocky Mountain Fire interviewed residents and witnesses to determine the exact cause.
The Sheriff's Office is working with the District Attorney's Office to determine if criminal charges are appropriate.
The fire broke out in the Superior duplexin the 300 block of South 3rd Street at around noon on Sunday.
One family wasn't home at the time and the other was alerted to the fire by neighbors.
None of the residents were injured, although three pets were lost in the fire.
Due to the hot weather and intense fire, multiple agencies responded and assisted including Louisville Police, Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Rocky Mountain Fire, Louisville Fire, North Metro Fire, Lafayette Fire, Longmont Fire, Boulder Rural Fire, Brighton Fire, Westminster Fire, AMR Ambulance and the Colorado Red Cross.
