Investigators turn to surveillance video in King Soopers shooting

DENVER - Denver police are hoping a surveillance video from a King Soopers store will help them identify a man who shot and wounded a security guard during a robbery attempt early Sunday morning.

The 52-year-old victim was recovering at Denver Health Medical Center. His family asked that information about his condition not be released. The latest updated was at 10 a.m., when the hospital said he was in serious condition.

Friends say the victim, Karim Alsubhi, is originally from Saudi Arabia and they say he used to serve in the Saudi military. He is married and has three sons who are in their 20s.

In the video from the surveillance camera at the grocery store, you can see the suspect pointing a gun at Alsubhi behind the customer service desk. At the same time, the suspect is demanding money.

The guard attempts to grab the gun, but fails, and then is shot several times before the suspect runs away, apparently empty-handed.

Alsubhi was in full uniform with his own gun. He was shot once in the upper torso.

Denver police were still looking for the suspect. He is described as black, 5-feet-8-inches tall, 160 pounds, with a moustache and goatee. He was wearing a black stocking cap, black jacket, black pants, black boots and white socks.

He is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Denver police said they were following up on several leads.

If and when the suspect is caught, he faces charges of robbery, attempted murder and attempted felony murder.

King Soopers is not commenting on what happened, but store officials did say they're offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Anyone with might know anything about the suspect is asked to call their local police department.
