DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Sky Ridge Medical Center will open a dedicated pediatric emergency room on Monday, becoming just the second adult-focused hospital in the Denver metro area to do so.
The Lone Tree facility, which is owned by HealthOne, now gets between 10 and 20 kids a day in its general emergency department. But officials believe the flow will increase once parents learn of the focus of the new 11-bed facility. Sky Ridge will staff the department 24/7 with pediatric-specialist doctors, nurses who are pediatrics-trained and emergency medical technicians, said Fara Butts, director of pediatrics for the hospital.
“If you look at the surrounding area, there’s such a volume of young families with young kids that we really thought there was a need for around-the-clock pediatric care to be provided,” Butts said.
