KUSA — Public health officials in Boulder are looking for a woman who they say had an up close and personal encounter with a rabid bat on the University of Colorado campus.

The incident happened at around noon on Monday, according to a news release from CU. The woman was outside of the McKenna languages building when a witness said the bat landed on her back.

The woman is believed to have grabbed the animal and removed it from herself.

Health officials don’t know if this bat bit or scratched the woman before she walked away.

She was believed to be looking for the Boulder Fringe Festival Office in the city at the time.

The bat was euthanized and then subsequently tested positive for rabies on Wednesday.

Boulder County and CU public health officials want to find the woman who had the encounter with the bat to get more information and make sure she’s OK.

The news release did not give a detailed description of the woman, but did say she is white, has dark hair and was wearing a white shirt.

Anyone who has information about the woman impacted by this situation should call Medical Services at Wardenburg Health Clinic at 303-492-5432. Outside of normal business hours, please report any information to the Facilities Management Operations Control Center at 303-492-5522.
