NBC - Australian doctors are warning against the dangers of skinny jeans after a woman was hospitalized for four days after experiencing muscle damage, swelling and nerve blockages in her legs after squatting for several hours while wearing tight-fitting denim.
The 35-year-old woman had spent most of the previous day helping someone move homes, squatting for long periods of time while emptying cupboards.
"As the lady was doing all of the squatting, the muscles started to get damaged, and it started to swell up," Dr. Michelle McDonnell with the University of South Australia said.
She said her skinny jeans felt increasingly tight and her feet were numb as she walked home.
"She wasn't able to move her ankles at all, so she would've essentially tripped over her feet if she was trying to walk," Dr. McDonnell said.
She was unable to get up and spent several hours stranded outside before getting to the hospital.
"You would think that if your jeans were hurting you, you would take them off, but not the case in this occasion," Lukas Harris with Nudie Jeans retail store said.
After being treated for four days and having her jeans cut off, the woman still had some weakness in her legs but walked out of the hospital and later fully recovered.
It is unclear if the woman still wears skinny jeans, but doctors say to avoid prolonged periods of squatting when wearing them.
