Fire at historic hotel in Gunnison

GUNNISON - An early morning fire Monday destroyed a historic hotel in Gunnison. Firefighters are still battling the blaze.

About 30 to 40 firefighters from Gunnison's volunteer fire department were working on the fire.

At first, firefighters were able to fight the blaze from the basement, but the fire quickly made its way along an inner wall and reached the roof. Crews were forced to continue the battle from outside the building.

The cause of the fire is unknown. An investigation will begin once the fire is out.

There were two guests inside the hotel when the fire broke out and both are okay. No one has been injured in the fire.

Efforts to fight the fire caused some temporary delays in traffic and business around the hotel. The Cattlemen's Inn was built in 1940. It is a landmark hotel and restaurant.
