Jimmy Kimmel praises Kyle Clark, introduces late-night audience to 'cast of characters' in CD4 debate

The 9NEWS CD4 Republican primary debate has gotten a lot of national attention - including on late night television.

LOS ANGELES — If it were up to Jimmy Kimmel, 9NEWS anchor Kyle Clark would be getting a raise.

The late night host featured clips of the 9NEWS Congressional District 4 Republican primary debate during "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Tuesday, and praised Kyle's job moderating.

The debate was held on May 30, and included fiery exchanges between the six candidates running to be the Republican nominee in Colorado's 4th Congressional District.

The biggest name on stage was U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, who represents the state's 3rd Congressional District but is moving to run in the 4th District. Alongside her were Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg, current state Rep. Richard Holtorf, former state House Minority Leader Mike Lynch, three-time congressional candidate and mortgage broker Peter Yu, and conservative activist and former talk radio host Deborah Flora.

"We got to meet a lively cast of characters challenging Lauren Boebert," Kimmel said to introduce the segment.

He then played a clip of Lynch responding to questions about a 2022 drunk driving arrest.

"Did Kyle just win the debate? He's the moderator," Kimmel joked. "This guy, his name's Kyle Clark, he's shot out of a cannon."

The Kimmel segment also featured clips of Boebert addressing the "Beetlejuice" theater incident and a question to Holtorf about whether he regrets saying that Boebert dresses like a prostitute.

"But the big takeaway is this moderator, this guy Kyle Clark," Kimmel said. "That's how you run a debate, right there. Like a drill sergeant. Give that man a raise."
