Support Jeffco Kids files complaint over domain name use

SupportJeffcoKids.org is not the same group as SupportJeffcoKids.com. In fact, they are political opponents.
Support Jeffco Kids which uses a .org ending has filed a complaint against a rival group which purchased a similar domain name ending in .com.

JEFFERSON COUNTY - Support Jeffco Kids is a group formed by parents who have taken a stance against the current conservative school board majority. Thursday, the group filed official complaints over the use of a web site domain too similar to their own.

"We have recently discovered that another organization – Jeffco Students First – has acquired and is using a confusingly similar and virtually identical domain name (www.supportjeffcokids.com) which immediately redirects viewers to its own separate and distinct website," Shawna Fritzler and Jonna Levine released in a statement.

Fritzler and Levine are co-chairs of the organization that uses the domain www.supportjeffcokids.org. The dot-com address automatically sends users to the Jeffco Students First web site which is another parent group directly opposed to Support Jeffco Kids.

Fritzler and Levine have filed official complaints with the Colorado Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Jefferson County District Attorney's Office claiming fraud.

"On its website, Jeffco Students First – which holds itself out as a Section 501(c)(3) charity – espouses views and positions completely antithetical to those of Support Jeffco Kids, and dishonestly solicits charitable donations from viewers who believed they were accessing Support Jeffco Kids' website," Fritzler and Levine said in a statement.

9NEWS reached out to the executive director of Jeffco Students First, Sheila Atwell and has not yet heard back for comment.
