KUSA — There will be no classes at Englewood schools Monday because teachers planned to walkout
The school district announced Thursday night that there would be no school on Monday due to the planned teacher walkout.
The district said in a letter to parents that more than 150 Englewood teachers said they weren’t planning on coming to work on Monday – a number that accounts for 70 percent of the workforce.
Part of the letter the district sent to parents reads:
"We understand that this unexpected change is inconvenient for families. Please know we exhausted all resources before deciding to cancel school for students. Our partners in childcare, Champions, will be open for the full day on Monday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to provide care for students. Care for all students will take place at Charles Hay World School (3195 S. Lafayette St.) The cost will be $30 per student for the day and breakfast, lunch and snacks will be included. Space is limited, so parents should sign up tomorrow at their school’s Champions location."
The Colorado Education Association issued a statement saying that “teachers are doing this out of love for your kids.”
Other districts could also be participating in the “Day of Action for School Funding” at the Capitol Monday, the Colorado Education Association said, but Englewood Schools said it’s unclear if participation will be as widespread.
Monday’s closure in Englewood means that schools will be closed to all students, but staff who are not taking part in the walkout will have a “working day.”
The Early Childhood Education Center at Maddox will continue normal operations, the district said.
Class is expected to continue as normal on Tuesday.

Kids don't have a voice, that's why teachers are joining a statewide action at the Capitol to stand up for our kids on Monday, April 16. We know this will be inconvenient on Monday, but we hope you understand that teachers are doing this out of love for your kids.
