DENVER — A new, unidentified voice is narrating travelers' rides on the train inside Denver International Airport.
Voters picked 9NEWS' Kim Christiansen last year to replace former anchor Adele Arakawa when she retired. They also decided the longtime male voice of the train, that of famed sports announcer Alan Roach, should stay.
Travelers usually hear Kim and Alan telling them to "hold on, please" before stops, and alerting them to the upcoming terminals. But some members of Team Next, who happened to be traveling through the airport recently, noticed a new voice commanding riders on the tram.
A spokesperson for DIA told us they're testing out updated commands that encourage riders to board more efficiently. This started about a week ago.
"Since we’re expecting our busiest summer yet, we’re really trying to get people to be prepared to board the train and to move to the center once on board," spokesperson Emily Williams told us in an email.
Busy travel days have been the trend for DIA. May marked the 18th consecutive month of record-breaking traffic at the airport.
The number of travelers could surpass 210,000 in a day this summer. The all-time record is 207,000 per day, set in July 2018.
The train's new language isn't wholly different. The changes mostly apply to the timing of the messages and where the message plays, Williams said.
An airport employee recorded the test messaging. If the airport decides it's working, Kim and Alan will record the final versions.
