KUSA - An Idaho Springs mother accused of shaking her 16-month old son who later died from a brain injury was sentenced to 12 years in prison followed by five years parole, District Court Judge Wayne Patton ruled on Nov 2.
Haley Stanfield plead guilty to the charge of child abuse resulting in death for the May 3, 2014 incident that killed Logan Borchik.
The DA's office said despite signs of Logan's medical distress after the shaking incident, neither Stanfield nor onetime boyfriend Joshua Olsen, 23, sought medical care for the toddler.
"There is nothing that will bring back Logan, who was a beautiful young boy and while a modicum of justice is served through this conviction for a horrible crime, the primary lesson here is never, ever shake a child," District Attorney Bruce Brown said.
Olsen is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 16 for a change of plea hearing on charges similar to Stanfield.
