LOVELAND, Colo. — A 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run in Loveland on Tuesday afternoon, the Loveland Police Department said.

A police officer was in the area of West First Street and North Taft Avenue when the officer saw a crashed motorcycle and rider on the ground. They were both on fire.

The officer and two city employees pulled the motorcyclist away from the burning motorcycle. The officer used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire on the man and started to perform life-saving measures. However, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim will be released later.

The department's Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling (C.R.A.S.H) team responded to the scene and determined the motorcyclist had hit a white 2010 Ford Fusion driven by 47-year-old Brooke Anderson.

The C.R.A.S.H team said the motorcyclist was traveling east on First Street going through the intersection of North Taft Avenue. Anderson was traveling west on First Street and was behind another car that was in the left turn lane to go south on North Taft. She went around the car in front of her in the left turn lane and turned from the wrong position, police said. The motorcycle then crashed into the passenger side of her car and burst into flames.

Anderson fled the scene and witnesses to the crash took photos of her car and license plate, police said. Police found Anderson at her house in the car and arrested her.

Anderson has been booked into the Larimer County Jail on these charges:

  • Failed to remain at the scene, give information or aid after an accident involving death
  • Vehicular homicide
  • Failed to notify police of an accident
  • Reckless driving

Police are asking if someone may have witnessed the crash or has any other information regarding this incident to call the Loveland Police Department tip line at 970-962-2032 or Larimer County Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868.
