DENVER — The Denver Police Department announced on Tuesday that they have arrested a woman in connection with the homicide of another woman that happened on Sept. 7.

On that day, paramedics responded to the Renaissance Lofts on North Broadway for a welfare check. According to the arrest warrant, when paramedics arrived, they found a woman dead in the bedroom of her apartment. After further investigation, it was determined she died under suspicious circumstances. The victim's name has not yet been released.

On Sept. 10, detectives interviewed a man who knew the victim and lived in the apartment building as well, the arrest warrant says. He said he knew who killed the victim since he was there at the time of the killing and the suspect was staying with the victim before she died. Investigators later identified 34-year-old Jasmane Taylor as the suspect.

The arrest warrant says a witness told officers "the suspect was upset at the victim because the victim may have given the suspect's true name to people," as Taylor goes by "Jax."

The man told police that Taylor slapped, punched and hit the victim multiple times, the arrest warrant says. Taylor apparently continued to hurt the victim by choking her, but the man didn't see her kill the victim as Taylor told him to turn away, the warrant says.

According the warrant, Taylor and the man left the victim's apartment to go to his apartment, where Taylor stayed for a few days. After Taylor left on Sept. 9, the man made an anonymous 911 call about the victim being dead in her apartment.

On Sept. 13, during an unrelated investigation for an outstanding arrest warrant for a parole violation, Taylor was contacted and arrested.

Police say Taylor and the victim knew each other and the victim's death was the result of Taylor assaulting the victim.

The warrant says Taylor contacted another friend who she had been in prison with. That person told police Taylor told her, "she was going going back to prison for a long time because she had beat a girl to death and may have choked her," according to the warrant.

Taylor is being held on a first-degree murder charge.
