Colorado police officer arrested, accused of domestic violence

The alleged crimes happened in late 2023 while the officer was off duty, the department said.

WINDSOR, Colo. — A police officer in the northern Colorado town of Windsor has been arrested on multiple domestic violence-related charges, the Windsor Police Department said.

The department said they first became aware of potential criminal misconduct involving 44-year-old Vladimir Zhizhin on Feb. 20. The alleged crimes happened in late 2023 while he was off duty, the department said. The department notified law enforcement in Cañon City and Larimer County, where the crimes allegedly occurred.

"Criminal and internal investigations processes were promptly initiated and Zhizhin was placed on administrative leave," the department said in a news release.

On Tuesday, the department said, Cañon City police issued a warrant for Zhizhin's arrest on charges of stalking, second-degree burglary and harassment.

Zhizhin is being held in the Weld County jail in Greeley, Windsor police said.

The department said Zhizhin was hired as an officer in April and was assigned to the patrol division. He remains on administrative leave pending further internal investigation, the department said.

“The Windsor Police Department takes integrity, accountability, and transparency very seriously,” Interim Chief of Police Aaron Lopez said in the release. “Our hearts go out those involved in this case as well as anyone whose life has been impacted by domestic violence.”
