WINDSOR, Colo. — A suspect in a drive-by shooting in northern Colorado Thursday afternoon is now in jail.

The Windsor Police Department said just before 2:50 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a shots fired call in the 600 block of Gyrfalcon Court.

Witnesses reported that someone in a pickup truck had fired four to seven rounds at an occupied building in the area. A worker was also outside the building at the time. No one was hurt, police said, but the building and several vehicles had minor damage. A shelter-in-place was issued for about two hours.

Shortly after that, police said, two people traveling near the Intersand America Corp. building on Weld County Road 23 near Eastman Park Drive in Windsor reported a man in a similar vehicle brandishing a gun at them.

They were able to give police the license plate number, which came back to 39-year-old Kyle Bertsch of Windsor.

Windsor Police said after identifying Bertsch as the suspect, they began working with other area agencies to find him. They said he was eventually spotted by officers with the Severance Police Department, who began a pursuit after he failed to stop.

Several law enforcement agencies helped with the nearly hour-long pursuit, police said, and several law enforcement vehicles were damaged during it. Police said Bertsch's pickup eventually became disabled in a field in northern Weld County. He immediately surrendered and was taken into custody.

Windsor Police said their own officers were not involved in the pursuit because it never entered their jurisdiction.

Bertsch is being held at the Weld County Jail, where he faces several charges including attempted second-degree murder. Bond has been set at $5 million.

Anyone with information that could help with the investigation is asked to contact Detective Thomas Olson at 970-302-8727 or by email at tolson@windsorgov.com.
