Shoplifting suspect accused of hitting 3 vehicles in King Soopers parking lot

Police arrested one suspect, while another one ran after the incident Wednesday morning at a King Soopers at 3400 Youngfield St.

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — Two shoplifting suspects at a Wheat Ridge King Soopers crashed into three vehicles, including a police patrol car, while fleeing the grocery store's parking lot on Wednesday, police said.

Wheat Ridge Police said on social media that they took a female suspect into custody, while a male suspect ran to the Clear Creek trailhead. Police ended the search for the second suspect along Clear Creek about 2:45 p.m.

The incident started when officers responded to a shoplifting call at the King Soopers at 3400 Youngfield St. When officers arrived on scene, the suspects tried to drive away. The driver clipped a Hyundai SUV, drove over a curb and smashed into a Toyota SUV. A patrol car got behind the suspect vehicle, but the driver reversed, hit the patrol car and drove out of the parking lot, said a police spokesman.

No officers were hurt. A person who was in one of the vehicles that was hit was injured and taken to a hospital.

Officers caught the vehicle at West 42nd Avenue and Youngfield Street, where they arrested one of the suspects who was taken to a hospital. Police released a photo of a damaged black SUV from that location.
