WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A person was killed by a suspected drunk driver Friday night following a head-on collision in Westminster, according to the Westminster Police Department.
At about 5 p.m., officers responded to a call regarding an erratic driver in the parking lot of the Promenade near Church Ranch and Westminster boulevards.
Witnesses said the driver almost side-swiped a car before driving over a curb in the parking lot and hitting several bushes.
Responding officers then witnessed the suspect driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Westminster Boulevard and approaching 112th Avenue at a high rate of speed.
Seconds later, police said the suspect collided head-on with another vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and later died from injuries sustained in the crash. That person’s identity will be released by the coroner’s office in the coming days.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was identified by police as 29-year-old Juan Ignacio Duran. He was arrested, taken to the hospital for treatment and later booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
Duran is facing charges for DUI, vehicular homicide/DUI resulting in death, and vehicular homicide/reckless driving resulting in death.
