Prosecutors decline to charge man after deadly stabbing of 23-year-old man in Westminster

The victim, Angelo Rodriguez, was stabbed at the Super 8 Hotel on Melody Drive in Westminster on June 29.

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — No charges will be filed in connection with a fatal stabbing at Westminster hotel late last month.

Officers responded around 9:10 a.m. on June 29 to a report of a possible stabbing at the Super 8 Hotel located in the 12000 block of Melody Drive.

When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as 23-year-old Angelo Nicholas Rodriguez, with a stab wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect left the scene and was arrested on July 3 in Denver on suspicion of second-degree murder. However, a spokesman for the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office said they declined to file charges "due to an inability to disprove self-defense at trial."

The criminal case is now closed.
