WASHINGTON COUNTY — A former deputy with the Washington County Sheriff's Office has been arrested on charges of child sex abuse, according to a release on the sheriff's office Facebook page.
On Aug. 21, a complaint was filed with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office regarding a possible sexual assault by Deputy Jon Hart, the release said. Sheriff Stivers contacted the District Attorney’s Office and requested that they investigate the complaint.
A day after the complaint was filed, Deputy Hart was put on administrative leave. Several weeks later, on Oct. 6, Deputy Hart was let go from the sheriff's office due to the findings of an internal investigation by the sheriff’s office, on other unrelated issues, the release said.
On Tuesday, Hart turned himself into the Logan County Sheriff's Office on a warrant for sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and pattern of abuse and 1st-degree official misconduct.
Hart was advised of the charges against him on Oct. 24 and was released on a $50,000 bond.
The sheriff's office did not provide any information about the alleged abuse in the release, citing a gag order.
