Deputies call off search for wanted felon who escaped from arrest

Deputies attempted to arrest Sean Hanneman, 56, when he fled in the area of South University Boulevard and East Easter Avenue, the sheriff's office said.

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office was looking for a man who fled from them on Wednesday.

Sean Hanneman, 56, is wanted for a parole violation and escape, according to the sheriff's office. Hanneman has violent tendencies and is known to carry large knives, the sheriff's office said.

A warrant was issued for Hanneman in 2021, and his whereabouts weren't known until recently. Deputies tried to arrest him Wednesday morning at a house in the 2500 block of East Easter Avenue, which is near South University Boulevard, and Hanneman fled, the sheriff's office said.

According to the Colorado Department of Corrections, Hanneman is a parolee and is not an inmate. He has, however, been evading parole supervision since 2021 and is considered a parole absconder.

A Code Red Alert was issued for residents in the area to shelter-in-place, and Sandburg Elementary School was placed on secure perimeter, the sheriff's office said in a post on the social platform X.

Deputies searched for three hours in the area between East Arapahoe Road and East Dry Creek Road and South University Boulevard and South Colorado Boulevard. They were unable to find Hanneman and called off the search, the sheriff's office said.

Hanneman is about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 immediately or the Department of Corrections at  1-866-873-6305.

Hanneman also escaped custody in 2018. At the time, he was serving time for forgery out of Douglas County and two separate escape charges out of Arapahoe County.
