COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Security cameras captured what police called an "ironic twist" to a crime: while multiple suspects robbed a check cashing business in Commerce City, someone else stole their getaway vehicle.
On the morning of Saturday, Dec. 16, three armed and masked people robbed the Hi Lo Check Cashing located in the 7200 block of Monaco Street, according to Commerce City Police. Police said no one was injured in the robbery.
Police shared surveillance footage that shows the suspects' vehicle — a black car with what appears to be magenta tape on a rear passenger window — moving around the parking lot outside the business before eventually stopping.
Several individuals are then seen getting off the car, presumably forgetting to lock it, before someone runs across the street, hops in and takes off.

Police said the car thief, identified as a woman, left the three suspects to run away on foot; however, officers were able to arrest two of them.
The suspects in custody are teenagers aged 14 and 15, according to a spokesperson for the department. Police retrieved a shotgun and a handgun from them, both of which were loaded, the spokesperson said.
Official charges for the suspects have not been determined. The department has not released information about the third suspect involved in the armed robbery.
Officers believe the hijacked getaway car is a Kia that had already been stolen, the spokesperson said. Police haven't shared further details about the woman who stole the vehicle, except for the fact that she faces motor vehicle theft charges.
Anyone with information about the car theft or armed robbery is asked to contact Detective Garcia at 303-227-7147.
