SUPERIOR, Colo. — Authorities are investigating a shooting that involved law enforcement on U.S. Highway 36 in Superior Sunday afternoon.
Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said one of its troopers responded to a motorist assist at around 11:40 a.m. As the trooper neared the car, they noticed bullet holes in the window, backed away and called for backup, CSP said. Deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office arrived a short time later.
The trooper and deputies talked the male out of the car, and got him to put his firearm down on the car, according to CSP. While the law officers talked to the male in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, the male picked the firearm up and pointed it at the officers, CSP said.
The officers then fired, striking the male, CSP said. Law officers provided first aid to the male but he died on scene, according to CSP.
None of the officers were injured, but a piece of one officers' equipment was hit by gunfire, CSP said.
CSP did not specify how many law officers fired, but said the "troopers and Boulder County Sheriff's deputies" involved were placed on paid administrative leave until the Boulder County Investigation Team finishes its investigation.
The Boulder County Coroner's Office identified the man as Efren Inda, 50.
