On Monday morning, U.S. Postal Service officials discovered the Indian Hills post office had been broken into and burglarized. On Tuesday morning, they found the same thing had happened at the Idledale office.
“These are smaller, rural offices where there’s no delivery operations, it’s simply a P.O. box lobby,” said Postal Inspector Eric Manuel. “There are several dozen people that get their mail at each office and they were all expecting a number of packages as well that we believe were taken.”
Manuel says both offices have open P.O. box lobbies where the public can collect mail but the suspect or suspects broke into the restricted area of the post office.
Given that the two offices are only a 15-minute drive apart and the burglaries happened just a day apart, Manuel says they’re likely connected.
Mail thieves are most often after identifying personal and financial information so those who use that post office should monitor their bank accounts.
