ARVADA, Colo. — The final moments of Dillon Vakoff’s life rapidly unraveled from what appeared to be a routine family custody dispute to street bedlam.
Before the Arvada Police officer’s body-worn camera went dark, his own voice revealed that he was trying to make sense of the growing confusion.
“Who's Lexi? Come talk to me please,” were his last words.
He then listened to Lexis Lopez explain how upset she was that her two young children were being looked after by a couple of teenagers, the video showed.
Soon, a fight between feuding families spilled into the street. Vakoff tried to break it up and seconds later, the Arvada Police officer with dreams of working SWAT, was lying in a parking lot fatally hit by gunfire.
