LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A police pursuit in Thornton ended Tuesday morning in Lakewood with two people shot and killed by police.
The pursuit started just after 2:30 a.m. near East 84th Avenue and Washington Street, according to Thornton Police. Officers spotted a suspicious vehicle without license plates and followed it into Lakewood, police said.
The driver stopped in the area of West Alameda Avenue and South Sheridan Boulevard, where one person got out of the car and fired a gun at officers, police said. Officers continued the pursuit to the area of West 2nd Avenue and Garrison Street where the driver stopped, according to police.
Two people, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun, got out of the car, police said.
Officers fired shots at the two people, hitting and killing both of them, according to Thornton Police. On Friday the Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified one of them as Jasmine Castro. They declined to release the other person's name.
The shooting is being investigated by the Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team. The three officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, per standard protocol, according to police.
