THORNTON, Colo. — A Thornton Police officer shot and killed a man who produced a weapon while he was walking in traffic Monday morning on Interstate 25, police said in a news release.
I-25 was closed for hours between 84th Avenue and Thornton Parkway for the investigation into the shooting and reopened about 1:30 p.m. Monday.
About 7:30 a.m., Thornton officers responded to a report of a man walking in traffic on I-25, north of the 84th Avenue exit. Multiple people had called 911 to report the man was causing vehicles to swerve, and one caller said she almost hit the man with her vehicle, police said.

No officers or other people were injured.
The Adams County coroner's office identified the man as 29-year-old Darylray Charles Lopez
The involved officers were placed on administrative leave, and the 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Team will investigate the shooting.
