AURORA, Colo. — A 13-year-old boy faces charges after the accidental fatal shooting of a teenage girl during a family party over the weekend, according to the Aurora Police Department.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 10:20 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Norfolk Street.
Investigators determined that the victim, a 17-year-old girl, was accidentally shot by a 13-year-old boy during a family party. Responding officers performed lifesaving actions until medical responded to the scene.
The girl was taken to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries. The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office identified her on Tuesday as Yorleny Breseida Esparza Lara.
The 13-year-old boy remained at the scene and was taken into custody. He was booked on charges of manslaughter and juvenile in possession of a gun, according to the Aurora Police Department.
Due to his age, the boy's name is not being released.
