Teen seriously injured in shooting at party in Lakewood, police say

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition after the shooting early Saturday in the 1100 block of Garrison Street, Lakewood Police said.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A teenager was seriously injured in a shooting at a party early Saturday morning, Lakewood Police said.

Around 3:52 a.m., officers responded to the shooting reported in the 1100 block of Garrison Street.

Authorities believe after an initial investigation that there was a party where an argument escalated into a shooting.

One neighbor's security camera footage caught at least 16 gunshots.

The teenage boy was taken to the hospital where he was in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon. His mother told 9NEWS he was shot in the head.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the community. No suspect information or any additional details were released. Police said their investigation is ongoing.

“We're working several different leads, checking things in the area, speaking with witnesses, speaking with anybody that may have information,” said Lakewood Police Public Information Officer Agent Paul Osckel. He said they would release more information to the public as soon as their investigation concludes.

This would be the sixth party involving teenagers 9NEWS has reported on in 2024 that ended in a shooting within the Denver Metro area.

“It's more concerning that our teens are ending these altercations in these violent means… We have to figure out how they're getting a hold of these weapons, and then why they're being used in these manners,” said Agent Osckel.
