The Denver Police Department has identified the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash that closed I-70 for hours late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
Police say Ivan Zamarripa-Castaneda, 26, is being held for investigation of Vehicular Homicide and Felony Hit and Run.
Denver Police say Zamarripa-Castaneda was merging his pickup truck onto eastbound I-70 near Brighton Blvd. when he struck a semi-truck. The semi-truck caught fire and the driver of the semi was killed.
Zamarripa-Castaneda allegedly fled the scene prior to police arriving. Police were able to contact Zamarripa-Castaneda at his residence where his speech was slurred, his breath had an odor of alcohol and he was not able to complete a voluntary roadside maneuver test.
Zamarripa-Castaneda was arrested and later agreed to have a blood test. Results of the blood samples are pending.
The name of the semi-truck driveer has not been released.
