BROOMFIELD, Colo. — A woman faces multiple charges including vehicular homicide in a crash this month that killed two people in a vehicle stopped on the side of Interstate 25 with a flat tire, the Broomfield Police Department said on Friday.
The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. Oct. 6 in the northbound lanes of I-25 between 144th Avenue and Highway 7. One of the people killed was inside the parked car, and the other was outside the car. They both died at the scene. The Adams and Broomfield Coroner's Office identified the victims as Yajing Liu, 35, and Shuangyue Chen, 64.
Three other people, including a child, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The investigation shows that the suspect was driving drunk when she hit the stopped vehicle, police said.
Broomfield Police did not name the suspect because she remains hospitalized from the crash.
The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office has accepted the following charges in the case, police said:
- Two counts of vehicular homicide with DUI
- Two counts of vehicular homicide - reckless
- One count of vehicular assault with DUI
- One count of vehicular assault - reckless
- DUI
