Man accused of strangling mother to death inside Douglas County home

Dustin Neumann, 27, was booked on a charge of second-degree murder.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — A man accused of strangling his mother to death inside a Douglas County home earlier this week, called his father in California and told him what he had done, according to an arrest affidavit from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Just before 3 p.m. on Monday, deputies with the sheriff's office responded to the 9200 block of Merino Circle, which is south of Chatfield State Park, for a report of a possible death.

A  man in California reported that he had received a call from his son Dustin Neumann. The man said that his son told him he had "got into it" with his mother and choked her, the affidavit says. Neumann told his dad she was dead, according to the document.

Neumann's father also relayed that his son has mental health issues and a traumatic brain injury.

When deputies arrived at the home they contacted Neumann outside the residence in a vehicle.

After entering the home, they found a woman's body in a closet. She had injuries consistent with strangulation, according to the affidavit.

Neumann was taken into custody and booked on a charge of second-degree murder and is being held without bond. He's due in court Friday.

The victim's name has not yet been released.
