SAN ANTONIO — An argument that authorities said was over a Sonic order ended with the restaurant's manager dead after a customer shot him Sunday night.
San Antonio police said the victim, identified as 33-year-old Daniel Shrewsbury, managed to retreat back into the Sonic after he was shot, but he was later declared dead by first responders.
SAPD is still looking for two people in connection with the incident, which unfolded around 9:40 p.m. at the location in the area of Babcock and Huebner. The agency shared photos of two individuals online, saying they were arguing with the 33-year-old employee before one of them fatally shot him.
One witness says they were in the drive through at the time of the shooting. They did not see the argument or persons of interest, but what they heard traumatized them.
“I was on my phone sitting in line. And I heard what sounded like at first, the first gunshot. But didn’t really register that that’s what it was. And then I heard two additional gunshots after that and my mind went, ‘ok something is happening here’. Tried to get out of there essentially, I was scared.”
They also said after hearing three gunshots, an employee came to their car.
"Poor girl, I feel for her. She came up and asked me if I still wanted my order. That an employee had been shot. And she just had a complete look of shock on her face. And I just said, ‘No, no, I’m fine, I’m just trying to get out of here.’”
A memorial was set up outside the Sonic on Monday morning for the man who lost his life, including flowers and candles have put out in his memory.
