Shoplifter punches liquor store owner

The thief attacked the liquor store owner after being confronted for a theft.
The clerk notified the store owner and the owner confronted the suspect by asking for his identification. The suspect responded by attacking the owner and punching him in the mouth.

JEFFERSON COUNTY - An alleged shoplifter attacked a liquor store owner after a clerk recognized him as someone who had stolen two liquor bottles earlier.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, a man entered the Canyon Liquors Store in the 30500 block of State Highway 72 on Dec. 19, 2014 at 7 p.m. The clerk recognized him and told the owner.

The owner confronted the man by asking for identification. Then, the suspect then attacked the owner and punched him in the mouth. The two wrestled around before the owner was able to push the suspect out of the store.

The suspect jumped into the passenger side of a small, foreign-made, blue car and fled the scene.

He is described as a young, white or Hispanic man with curly dark hair. He was wearing a blue-hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The owner was only minorly injured.
