WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — A suspect is in custody Sunday afternoon after a shooting and barricade situation, according to Wheat Ridge Police (WRPD).
Officers said they responded to reports of shots fired in the 3900 block of Quay Street around 9:21 a.m. and found a man with a gunshot injury to the hand. He was treated at the scene and the suspect barricaded himself inside the home.
More shots were fired from the residence while South Metro SWAT was negotiating with the suspect, and the CodeRed shelter in place call was sent at 9:51 a.m, according to Sara Spaulding with WRPD.
A robot determined the scene was safe and SWAT entered the residence taking Jay Rossow, 63, into custody with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, WRPD said. Medical attention was immediately provided and West Metro Fire transported Rossow to an area hospital.
His condition is unknown.
