ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A man was shot and killed by an Englewood police officer after a felony menacing call Saturday afternoon, the Englewood Police Department said.
The shooting happened in the area of Oxford Avenue and Broadway. Police said around 12:40 p.m., they were called to a felony menacing with a gun at the Lucky U Motel on South Broadway. The caller reported that a man had pointed a gun at them, threatened to rob and shoot them, and then left the area on foot. The man was still carrying the gun when he left, the caller said.
Officers found the man in the area of Broadway and Princeton Avenue and chased him on foot to the area of Broadway and Oxford, where an officer shot him, police said. The man was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.
Police said the officer who fired has been put on paid administrative leave per department policy. The 18th Judicial District's Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting.
