BOULDER COUNTY - A 28-year-old woman was arrested early Friday morning for allegedly trying to kill a deputy with her minivan.

At 2 a.m., Boulder County Sheriff's Office Deputy Eric Robinson was traveling south on Highway 36 near Neva Road when he saw a minivan approaching him going northbound.

The minivan crossed over the center line and was traveling in his lane. He moved right to try to avoid a head-on crash. The minivan moved as well and he managed to pull over to the shoulder of the road and avoid a collision.

He says the minivan drove off the west side of the road rolling off the shoulder of the road.

Robinson went to the crashed minivan and spoke to the driver, identified as Jessica Lynn Hargest. She told him she was trying to kill him, according to the sheriff's office.

Hargest had minor injuries in the crash. She was booked into the Boulder County Jail on the charge of criminal attempted murder in the second degree and other traffic charges.

Robinson says it's not likely that Hargest was aware the other driver he was a deputy and it could have been anyone she was targeting. The sheriff's office is grateful he was attentive to what was going on and had training in defensive driving, making it possible for him to avoid the collision.

If anyone was in the area and saw erratic driving by this minivan, or have any additional information about this incident, please contact Detective Brian Jones at 303-441-1681.

No motive for her actions was given.
