Man sentenced for killing 9-month-old girl

Cain Gallardo, 24, was convicted in October of child abuse resulting in death.

DENVER — A man who was convicted of killing a baby girl has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Cain Gallardo, 24, was found guilty on Oct. 16 of child abuse resulting in death in connection with the 2020 death of 9-month-old Gianna Rosales.

The video aired on May 16, 2021.

Gianna died on Aug. 4, 2020, according to Denver Police, one day after she was brought to Denver Health Medical Center. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner said she died from blunt force trauma.

Gallardo, who was the boyfriend of Gianna's mother Jolene Beyer-LaCrue, was arrested in May 2021 in the girl's death after an extensive investigation.

Gianna's father, Anthony Rosales, told 9NEWS he reported concerns about a bruise on her to the Wheat Ridge Police Department before she died.

According to Wheat Ridge Police, officers talked to Rosales and Beyer-LaCrue on July 18, 2020, but were not able to establish probable cause for abuse. That was just over two weeks before Gianna died.

Wheat Ridge Police said both the mom and dad were pointing fingers at each other for the bruise. The department said they made a report to the Colorado Department of Human Services' Office of Children, Youth and Families.
