ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — More than three dozen birds, some with injuries consistent with cockfighting, were seized as part of a joint investigation, the Adams County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

The sheriff's office and Adams County Code Enforcement recently learned about someone suspected of keeping roosters used for cockfighting at a property off Hudson Road in Watkins.

An Eastern Plains detective from the sheriff's office and Adams County Animal Management coordinated with the Bureau of Animal Protection to serve a warrant at the property.

The sheriff's office said 39 birds, including 32 roosters were seized. Some of them showed injuries that appeared consistent with cockfighting.

One man was arrested on suspicion of animal fighting and aggravated cruelty to animals. The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office will make a final determination about charges.
