'A broad daylight crime': Reward increased for info leading to Denver sex assault suspect's arrest

The reward for information leading to the arrest of 34-year-old Jerome Lekendrick Lucas has been increased from $2,000 to $5,000, Denver Police announced Friday.

The Denver Police Department is raising the reward for information leading to the arrest of a man wanted for sexual assault, burglary and kidnapping.

At a press conference Friday morning, Metro Denver Crime Stoppers announced an increase in the reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of 34-year-old Jerome Lekendrick Lucas, also known as Lekendrick Jerome Lucas.

A DPD spokesperson said the crime happened on March 24 in the area of South Monaco Parkway and East Mississippi Avenue, and that the victim was a woman.

“It was a broad daylight crime,” said Detective Lang with the Denver Police Sex Crimes Unit. “That’s why this is very different from most crimes we have in our unit. In broad daylight, the victim was attacked in her home, sexually assaulted, items were stolen, along with her vehicle – which we have recovered.”

Lang described Lucas as a “dangerous individual” that law enforcement has exhausted many efforts trying to apprehend. He has a lengthy criminal history with burglary, robbery, theft and drug offenses, Lang said. Lucas also has an active warrant related to a separate auto theft case.

“The nature of this crime – a burglary, a sexual assault, an attack in your own home on a Sunday afternoon in broad daylight – is not anything I have ever been a part of in my 16-year career,” Lang said. “With those factors, he is a danger to the public and we need to get him off the streets.”

In the past, he's used several aliases: Jerome Hubbart, Jerome Mills, Jerome Mims, Villain, Baby and Baby Vill, according to police.

DPD said Lucas has ties to Aurora, Colo., Missouri, Texas, California and South Dakota.

Because it's a sexual assault investigation, no other information is available. Metro Denver Crime Stoppers tipsters can remain anonymous and report tips at 720-913-7867 or at the Crime Stoppers website.
