PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. — The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Pueblo West woman on animal cruelty charges.
After a months-long investigation, deputies arrested 38-year-old Elizabeth Barnes-McDaniel, the sheriff's office said.
The investigation started after a citizen reported several malnourished horses owned by Barnes-McDaniel, according to the sheriff's office. Authorities rescued 23 animals and had to euthanize one horse due to neglect, the sheriff's office said.
All of the other animals are being taken care of by rescue partners, according to the sheriff's office.
Barnes-McDaniel is scheduled to make her first appearance in court on March 14.
