Prosecutors: Fatal shooting in downtown Denver was between gang members

Two men arrested for a shooting in downtown Denver on Monday afternoon were involved in two rival Crips gangs, prosecutors said on Wednesday.

DENVER — The two men arrested in connection to Monday’s shooting in downtown Denver that left one person dead and four others injured were rival gang members, according to a federal court cords.

Dashae Eugene Armstrong, 23, appeared in U.S. District Court on Wednesday morning where he was charged with one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition. Armstrong was one of the four people injured in the shooting at 21st and Lawrence streets. He was arrested after being treated at the hospital.

The other suspect, 24-year-old Josh Hayward, left the scene of the shooting in a vehicle and was arrested around 8 a.m. on Tuesday. He's being held on investigation of first-degree murder.

The shooting occurred near several apartment buildings, restaurants, and breweries in LoDo, and was also about two blocks from Coors Field.

The other four victims shot during this incident were all innocent bystanders and had no gang affiliation or association, according to court documents.

Armstrong has a detention hearing scheduled for November 27.
