It has been a mystery for seven and a half years. Who killed a popular teacher in Kiowa and left his body in a field?
The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday afternoon that they have arrested 34-year-old Daniel Pesch for his alleged role in the death of Randy Wilson, whose body was spotted by someone driving by a remote field in Elbert County in June 2010.
Wilson’s hands were bound. There was a bag over his head and a belt around his neck.
Citing a court order, the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office could not release much information about the case on Tuesday, other than that Pesch faces charges for first-degree murder, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer and attempted escape.
It’s unclear if he knew Wilson, or what the motive may have been for the murder.
Brett Robinson was a superintendent for the school district where Wilson worked before his murder. He says he was called by the sheriff’s office to identify his friend’s body.
“He was a great teacher, a great father, and he had a dry sense of humor that was really fun to be around,” Robinson said.
“He did not deserve to be out in that field,” he added. “Everything about it was wrong.”
