Police looking for driver in fatal hit-and-run

Aurora police said the crash happened around 7:15 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and South Havana Street.

AURORA, Colo. — Officers are looking for the driver who left the scene of a fatal crash Sunday morning, the Aurora Police Department said.

Police said the crash happened around 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and South Havana Street. It involved a 2000 Honda Accord and a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Investigators believe the driver of the Hyundai ran a red light before the crash. 

The driver of the Honda, a 28-year-old man, was killed in the crash, police said. 

The driver of the Hyundai left the scene, police said. That person has not been identified or located. 

Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867 or visit metrodenvercrimestoppers.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000. 

Metro Denver Crime Stoppers works by assigning a code to people who anonymously submit a tip. Information is shared with law enforcement, and Crime Stoppers is notified at the conclusion of the investigation. 

From there, an awards committee reviews the information provided and, if the information leads to an arrest, the tipster will be notified. Rewards can be collected using the code numbers received when the tip was originally submitted.
