Denver police officers arrested a suspect in the Jan. 27 break-in at the Colorado state Capitol. Elias Anthony Dominguez was arrested for second-degree burglary on Friday, the Denver Police Department said.

According to arrest documents, Dominguez was captured on surveillance cameras entering the Capitol building illegally through a faulty security door.

Colorado State Patrol is responsible for security at the Capitol, but the case was handed over to the Denver Police Department.

Authorities said Dominguez entered the building around 2:28 a.m. and was seen on surveillance footage several times up until he left the building around 5:06 a.m.

Dominquez injured his hands during the burglary, police said. This lead investigators to find blood on several items throughout the main and second story levels of the building.

Authorities said they are awaiting DNA results collected from the scene of the crime. Based on facts and circumstances, police determined probable cause exists to charge Dominguez with second-degree burglary.

Dominguez will be in court on Feb. 19.
