Passed-out teacher's aide found with needle in arm

Police say the 27-year-old teacher's aide found unconscious in a elementary school bathroom had a syringe hanging from her arm and a baggy of unknown white powder nearby.
The employee who was found unconscious in a DCIS at Ford Elementary School bathroom and was arrested for possession of a controlled substance has been identified as Cassandra Rein.

DENVER - Police say the 27-year-old teacher's aide found unconscious in a elementary school bathroom had a syringe hanging from her arm and a baggy of unknown white powder nearby.

Cassandra Rein was found passed out Thursday morning in a bathroom at DCIS at Ford Elementary School by four first grade students who thought she was asleep.

According to a Denver police report, a teacher attempted to wake Rein up before the ambulance arrived. When asked what the white powder and syringe were for, Rein replied that her roommate was diabetic and did not know why it was there, the report stated.

She was taken to the hospital for evaluation and then arrested for possession of a controlled substance. It's not clear if Rein's condition was the result of the unidentified drug she was allegedly in possession of.

Police say Rein's purse contained several bottles of various pills, several more syringes, and metal caps containing a burnt powder subsistence residue.

Denver Public Schools are not releasing any other details on Rein's employment with the school located at 14500 Maxwell Place. They are calling it a "confidential personnel matter." Rein remains on administrative leave.
