GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - The attorney for a Grand Junction police officer accused of vandalizing his former girlfriend's home says he might ask for a special prosecutor to handle the case.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports officer Gage Wright appeared in court Tuesday on charges of criminal mischief and official misconduct. The 37-year-old Wright is accused of spray-painting profanity on the home of the woman and her current husband and slashing the tires on a pickup.
He's also accused of using his job to get personal information about the woman from a law-enforcement database.
Wright's attorney said he was considering requesting a special prosecutor because Wright is scheduled to be a prosecution witness in about 10 upcoming cases. He says that could create a conflict for prosecutors.
Wright hasn't entered a plea.
